The Fanvil H601W is a compact screenless hotel IP phone with built-in dual-band Wi-Fi 6. It supports two programmable DSS keys and wideband codecs G.722 and Opus. Because it connects via Wi-Fi rather than a wired Ethernet run, the H601W reduces network deployment costs significantly in hotel room installations where cabling to each phone location is impractical or expensive. The H601W supports both desktop and wall-mounted installation, giving it more placement flexibility than the H602, which is desktop only. A power adapter is included in the box — no separate purchase is required.

Compared to the wired H601, the H601W trades PoE power support for Wi-Fi 6 connectivity. The H601W is DC-powered only. For deployments where PoE is preferred and wired Ethernet is available, the H601 is the appropriate model.

1. Audio Performance

The H601W supports HD voice via wideband ADC/DAC sampling at 16 kHz. Wideband codecs are G.722 and Opus. Narrowband codecs cover G.711a/u, G.723.1, G.726, G.729A/B, and iLBC. Full-duplex Acoustic Echo Cancellation (AEC) prevents microphone feedback during calls. Voice Activity Detection (VAD), Comfort Noise Generation (CNG), Background Noise Estimation (BNE), Noise Reduction (NR), and Automatic Gain Control (AGC) maintain natural call quality across different acoustic environments. Packet Loss Concealment (PLC) and a dynamic adaptive jitter buffer reduce the audible impact of network instability. Voice Quality Monitoring (VQM) via RTCP-XR (RFC3611) and VQ-RTCPXR (RFC6035) allows call quality to be tracked at the network level across large deployments.

2. Keypad and DSS Keys

The H601W has 5 physical keys. Two DSS keys are programmable for speed dial, service hotlines, or other functions — fewer than the H602’s six, but sufficient for the most common hotel room shortcuts such as reception and room service. Three function keys cover up/down navigation and hands-free. A red LED message waiting indicator signals voicemail. The H601W supports a customisable faceplate, which suits hotel branding requirements where the phone panel needs to display a property logo or labelled shortcut keys.

3. SIP and Call Features

The H601W registers two SIP lines and supports SIP v1 (RFC2543) and v2 (RFC3261) over UDP, TCP, and TLS. Call features include speed dial, auto-answer, hot line, voice message, web dial, dial plan, distinctive ring, multicast, and SIP hotspot. A built-in Wi-Fi SSID feature is exclusive to the W model. Action URL and Active URI support integration with hotel property management systems. DTMF works in-band, via RFC2833, and via SIP INFO.

4. Wi-Fi 6 Connectivity

The H601W supports dual-band Wi-Fi 6. The 2.4 GHz band uses 802.11 b/g/n/ax and the 5 GHz band uses 802.11 a/n/ac/ax. Wi-Fi encryption covers WPA, WPA2-PSK, and 802.1x EAP. Wi-Fi 6 delivers more stable performance in dense wireless environments — such as hotel floors where many devices share the same access point — compared to phones using older Wi-Fi standards. This is particularly relevant for large hotel properties where Wi-Fi 6 infrastructure is already in place.

5. Network and Management

The H601W connects via the built-in Wi-Fi radio at 10/100 Mbps equivalent. It supports IPv4, IPv6, and dual-stack operation. IP assignment is available via static IP, DHCP, or PPPoE. Network security features include 802.1x access control, L2TP and OpenVPN VPN support, VLAN (802.1P/Q), LLDP, and QoS. Auto-provisioning runs via FTP, TFTP, HTTP, HTTPS, DHCP Option 66, SIP PnP, and TR-069. The web management portal handles configuration export/import, firmware upgrade, and syslog.

6. Physical Design

The H601W measures 195 × 181 × 30 mm and is finished in black. Its slim 30 mm depth suits wall-mounted installations in hotel rooms where a projecting phone would be inconvenient. Working temperature is 0 °C to 45 °C. Power consumption on the DC adapter runs from 0.9 W to 1.7 W — lower than the H602 on PoE — making it an economical choice in always-on deployments.
